It is not uncommon to see a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle (Honu) along the south shore of Maui; even from the beach, walking along the shoreline, one can, now and then, see their head pop up to take a breath . Snorkeling in the many ‘turtle towns’ that exist on the south and west shores, not far from shore, sightings happen. I’ve been swimming around with these ancient creatures for years, always respectful. A recent morning turtle swim was particularly pleasant as an older turtle just kind of hung around closely, almost posing. I took a lot of pictures with my little underwater point and shoot, an Olympus TG-1. Here is an audiovisual slideshow of my morning turtle swim.
