Oregon’s Smith Rock Area

Oregon’s Smith Rock area, about an hour north of Bend in the central part of the state, is a rock climber’s mecca. It is also very photogenic with its massive tall outcroppings and the winding Crooked River meandering through the valley floor. Morning light is appealing and there are few people there, though by late morning the place is quite active with rock climbers and sightseers….


Smith Rock is, like so many geologic features in the area, the result of volcanic activity in the past. Smith Rock is considered one of the 7 wonders of Oregon….
