The Kahului Harbor breakwall is a great place to be rockin’ on close up; it is a bunch of large lava rocks, large enough to hop from one to another like a long free form Hopscotch. These ancient lava rocks are not just utilitarian, they are also an expression of art, natural forging and carving, shaped by forces of fire wind and water. When looking close up, the contours, textures, hues and shades of color, and juxtapositions of pieces, makes for a scene that if scaled up, would be worthy of a monumental national park. Imagine yourself as one inch tall amidst these massive lava boulders.
